‘Fire show’ comes with dinner at Beavercreek restaurant

There are dinner shows and there are fire shows.

Osaka Japanese Steakhouse, 2476 Commons Blvd. near Fairfield Commons Mall in Beavercreek, offers both.

In fact, dinner is the fire show.

The restaurant holds frequent wine tasting events and offers sushi, sake, soups and a variety of steamed or fried  appetizers  and entrees such as calamari, rock shrimps, shumai, shrimp tempura and soft shell crab.

We tried the fried calamari, which came with a dynamite mayonnaise-based spicy sauce.

Yum-yum sauce was served with meals.

The hibachi is king and is super showy at Osaka, where  chefs rhythmically clink spatulas before making your meal on grills at your table.

“They (customers) love our hibachi,” said Henry Lin, the restaurant’s manager.

The flames were large and so were the smiles.

Osaka is a place for celebration, and we were there with a large group for a friend’s birthday.

The restaurant’s walls are covered with photos of smiling diners donning a ridiculously festival birthday hat.

The restaurant offers free cheesecake, fried cheesecake or ice cream to birthday girls and boys.

A set of high-energy chefs tag teamed our tables, squirting sake or water into open mouths when not grilling and frying our dinner.

The Hibachi dinner ranged from $15.95 for vegetable to $32.95 for lobster tail.

Chicken, steak, filet mignon, shrimp, salmon and white fish hibachi dinners are also available.

There are pick two and pick three options for vegetable, chicken, salmon, shrimp, steak and scallops ($23.95 and 31.95).

Like most in our party, I went with the steak and shrimp while my dining companion chose a sushi meal.

Each dinner came with a salad and a soup.

The chefs fried our table’s eggs, rice and vegetable — onions, zucchini, broccoli, etc. — before grilling separated portions of chicken, shrimp and steak.

As items were ready, the chefs piled them high on plates in front of the people who ordered them.

The shrimp was juicy and plump, the steak (New York strip) was nice and tender, and the veggies were crisp.

HOT EATS:

Osaka food was good and its atmosphere was fun and friendly.

It did the heart good to hear so many people having such a good time.

It is a great place to try if you are looking for a hot night on the town.
