I’m sure just about everybody is familiar with the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport, or simply “Dayton International Airport” to most people. According to FlightStats.com the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport is Ohio’s third busiest airport with over one million passengers annually. It is also routinely one of the cheapest in the region according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation.
James M. Cox was more than just a three-term Ohio governor, he was also the the democratic presidential nominee in 1920. On top of his political career, he was also the owner and publisher of several newspapers, including the Dayton Daily News.
The airport wasn’t always named after Cox, when it was opened in 1936 it was originally just called the “Dayton Airport," it was only in 1952 that the Dayton City Commission passed a resolution to rename the airport after Cox, according to FlyDayton.com.
