3 things to know about Dayton's groundbreaking NFL history

This week in 1920, Dayton hosted the first game of what would become the NFL. The Dayton Triangles played the Columbus Panhandles at Triangle Park in a game that would solidify the city's history in professional football.

Here are three things to know about the game and its place in history.

1. Even though it was early in pro football's life, thousands of people were there. Four thousand people paid $1.75 for admission. Each player was paid $50.

2. The Triangles were led by the West Carrollton Battering Ram. That was Lou Partlow, the Triangles running back, who scored the first touchdown in that game and was known for his unusual and intense conditioning methods.

3. And, Dayton won! Bragging rights, 14-zip over Columbus.
