No matter which political side of the fence you mow, you can probably appreciate the shade Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley threw south this week.

The democratic mayor used the trending "alternative fact" hashtag to stick it to Dayton's archenemy:  Kitty Hawk, N.C.

She wrote:

"North Carolina is the Birthplace of Aviation. #alternativefact"

Kellyanne Conway, President Donald Trump's adviser,  coined  the catchphrase "alternative facts" Sunday when she called the president's claims about the crowd size at his inauguration "alternative facts."

WHY THE SHADE?

Wilbur and Orville Wright completed the first flight of a self-propelled, heavier-than-air aircraft near Kitty Hawk on Dec. 17, 1903. It lasted 30 seconds.

The work that made that flight possible, including building the plane, happened in Dayton, where the brothers lived most of their lives.

A much longer flight in 1904 happened locally at Huffman Prairie.

Ohio and North Carolina have long battled for the claim of birthplace of Aviation.
