Stivers School for the Arts will pull back the curtain on its prized auditorium next month, which is now more than a century old.

The school will host a celebration performance on Saturday, Oct. 3 to honor the newly renovated Eichelberger Hall.  The 8 p.m. show will feature local arts groups performing with Stivers School for the Arts students.

Members of The Dayton Opera, The Human Race Theatre CompanyThe Dayton BalletThe Zoot Theatre Company, Dayton Jazz singer Saundra Rutledge, The Elements including Rick and Sharon Good, Michael and Sandy Bashaw and DCDC will be joined by students of Stivers School for the Arts.

Rather than an after-party, a pre-performance reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. across the street at the Liederkranz Turner Hall.

The 101-year-old auditorium was recently restored to its late-Victorian character thanks to a grant from the Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation of the Dayton Foundation.  This inaugural performance is an effort to invite the community to join in the celebration, but also to support Stivers students and programs.

When the school's main building was restored, beginning in 2007, the auditorium was untouched due to budget constraints. Three years ago the seedling Foundation, with support from alumni and friends, undertook a restoration project which included purchasing and moving 600 seats from Julienne High School.

A year later the Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation made a grant of $250,000 plus a later supplemental grant of $36,500 to assist in the restoration. This allowed the upgrading of lights, sounds, rigging, film and video projection equipment and acoustical treatments.

The inaugural performance of Eichelberger hall will be directed by Arron Vega, formerly of the Human Race and Zoot Theatre Company, and Michael Lippert, of the Human Race Theatre Company, will act as the emcee.

Performance tickets range from $20 to $40 while patron tickets, including the reception and performance, are $100.

Tickets can be ordered online at or by phone at (937) 212-2044.
