7 new restaurants to try in (and around) Dayton this weekend

If you’re looking to try something new this weekend, we’ve got your covered. Get yourself a delicious meal at one of these new restaurants in the Dayton area.

1.) New Indian restaurant -- with a twist

Prems Chennai Delight Indian Cuisine opened at 725 Lyons Road in Washington Twp., with a menu that its founders say distinguishes it from other Indian restaurants in the region. Unlike many other Indian restaurants, it specializes in the cuisine of southern India, its founders say. Select dishes from northern India and Indochina also are offered.

2.) Get your gyro on

The Gyro Room is now open at 1124 Brown St. near the University of Dayton. The restaurant's menu includes gyros, chicken gyros, vegetarian gyros, shrimp gyros, a Philly Gyro, souvlaki, falafel, Greek salads, Greek pizza and baklava.

3.) DLM's new upscale sushi

Not quite a new restaurant, but new dishes, so we'll take it. Dorothy Lane Market has taken over direct control of the sushi shops, and is vowing to take quality and selection "to the next level." DLM is "making a shift from a 'market sushi' to a more upscale sushi offering," said Jack Gridley, DLM's vice president of meat and seafood. "There will be many more options and combinations available in the case, with more species of fish offered than ever before.

4.) Hit the Butler County donut trail

A new shop has been added to the lineupCentral Pastry Shop at 1518 Central Ave. in Middletown is the 10th business to join the Butler County Donut Trail.

Central Pastry will join Milton’s Donuts, 3533 Roosevelt Blvd., as the two Middletown shops on the popular attraction that highlights small, family-run doughnut shops and invites visitors to explore Butler County through doughnuts.

5.) Order a big burrito at this new Mexican joint

La Isla Del Tico at 2701 E. Third Street in Dayton has a large dining area for which to wrestle with their sizable burrito.

The burrito comes with your choice of meat, beans, sour cream, lettuce and cheese. If all that sounds too good to pass up, but looks to be too big, fear not. The restaurant, which is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week, also has a smaller version.

6.) Fusian restaurant going after non-sushi eaters, too

The fast-growing sushi chain with Oakwood ties is introducing a new menu concept with the opening of its third Dayton-area restaurant located at The Mall at Fairfield Commons. The ‘Inspired Bowls’ are designed to please both sushi eaters and those who’d rather do without.

7.) Springboro’s ‘Highland Stag’ boasts generations of authenticity

The new Celtic-themed restaurant located at 75 N. Main St. in downtown Springboro is family owned and will be open Tuesday and Wednesday 4 p.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to midnight, and closed Monday. The menu offers 25 items, all prepared from scratch. Six of the recipes are 100 percent authentic, while the rest have been developed and perfected by Chef Consultant Drew Ballard to keep with traditional Celtic and Scottish influence.
