Non-stop Allegiant flights from Dayton to Florida start today

Starting today, low-cost carrier Allegiant Air is offering non-stop flights from Dayton International Airport to Florida.

Flights to Orlando Sanford International Airport begin today and flights to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport begin Friday.

“We could not be more thrilled to officially welcome Allegiant to Dayton International Airport,” Terrence Slaybaugh, airport director, said in a release. “Allegiant is known for providing affordable flights to many popular destinations, and Dayton travelers are thrilled to be able to now have convenient access to nonstop flights to two amazing cities.”

Allegiant’s business model is largely flights from U.S. cities to vacation destinations like Florida, Hawaii and Las Vegas.

The inaugural Orlando and St. Pete-Clearwater flights will be sent off in the traditional manner, with balloons, refreshments and giveaways for passengers and a water cannon salute from the airport’s fire engines, according to a release.

Today’s celebration will take place leading up to the 5:20 p.m. Orlando flight departure. Friday’s celebration will lead up to the St. Pete-Clearwater flight’s 4:03 p.m. departure.

“It’s always a lot of fun to send off new flights in this way,” Slaybaugh said in a statement. “It’s our way of letting passengers know they are a part of something special and welcome a new airline to our fun way of doing things in Dayton.”

The new non-stop flights will operate twice-weekly out of Dayton.

Prices for the new flights out of Dayton start as low as $51 to Orlando Sanford Airport and $57 to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.

To keep its ticket prices low, flights don’t include on-board entertainment or frequent flier promotions.
